JacekKoprowicz,boththewriterofthescreenplayandthedirectorofthefilm,hascentred‘Mistyfikacja’aroundthequestionssurroundingWitkacy’sdeath,creatingastoryofpassionandmadness,loveandfalsehood,perversionandhappiness,whichoftentranscendtherealmsofunderstanding.Accordingtothedirector,Witkacydidnotcommitsuicidebutinsteadhidathislover’shouseformanyyearsuntilthissomewhatmystifyingactwasrevealed.ThefilmwasshotnotonlyinCracowbutalsoinZakopane,whereWitkacylivedformanyyears,aswellasatlocationsthroughoutMa?opolskasuchasLanckorona,asmallholidayretreatpopularwithartists,andinthePuszczaNiepo?omicka(Niepo?omiceForest).NowonderthelocalgovernmentsofCracowandtheregionjoinedintheproject.Assumingagoodfilmisanexcellentmethodofself-promotion,theycreatedtheRegionalFilmFundin2009,whosemainaimwastosupportfilmproductionandsecurefilmlocationswithintheregion.
